Sysco has launched Keystone Laundry, a professional-grade on-site laundry range spanning detergents (bio and non-bio) and a softener.
The range extends the Keystone portfolio developed with Ecolab, already widely used across hospitality for cleaning and hygiene.
Head of merchandising Jess Mettrick said operators reported too many products, too many steps and too many re-washes; the range offers one product per task and right-first-time results.
Sysco has launched Keystone Laundry, a professional-grade on-premise laundry range aimed at hospitality operators — a move that extends the broadline distributor's Keystone private-label hygiene portfolio into a adjacent consumables category.
The range covers core laundry needs: everyday detergents, bio and non-bio options for tougher stains or sensitive environments, and a fresh softener. Sysco positions the products against the operating realities of busy kitchens — high staff turnover and constant time pressure — where laundry routines often break down.
Jess Mettrick, head of merchandising at Sysco, framed the launch around cost control and process simplification rather than product innovation alone. "Keystone Laundry brings the clarity, consistency and cost control our customers already trust from Keystone into the laundry room. Operators told us they were dealing with too many products, too many steps and too many re-washes. This range fixes that. It is professional laundry made simple, with one product per task, right-first-time results and routines that work for busy hospitality teams," she said.
The reference to re-washes points to a measurable cost lever: every failed wash cycle consumes detergent, water, energy and labour while producing no usable linen. In high-turnover hospitality environments, where training consistency is weak, simplified one-product-per-task routines reduce both consumable waste and labour minutes per load. Sysco's merchandising logic is that SKU rationalisation on the operator's shelf translates into higher attach rates on Sysco's order guide.
Keystone Laundry is an extension of the wider Keystone portfolio, which Sysco developed in partnership with Ecolab and which is already widely used across hospitality for cleaning and hygiene. That partnership matters for distribution economics: Ecolab brings formulated chemistry and credibility in professional hygiene, while Sysco controls the route to market through its foodservice customer base. For Ecolab, the private-label arrangement secures volume through a channel it does not own; for Sysco, it deepens share of wallet in non-food consumables — a category that typically carries stronger gross margins than core food distribution and helps insulate case volume from food price deflation.
The laundry category itself sits within a broader shift in foodservice distribution: distributors increasingly compete on total operating cost for the outlet, not just plate cost. Linen and uniform handling — whether on-site or through third-party laundry services — represents a recurring, non-discretionary expense for hotels, restaurants and care-sector operators. A distributor that can bundle cleaning chemicals, hygiene products and now laundry consumables into a single delivery consolidates orders, improves drop size and raises switching costs for the account.
What remains asserted rather than measured is performance. Sysco says the range delivers "right-first-time results" and a "consistent finish," but the company has not disclosed trial data, per-load cost comparisons against incumbent professional laundry brands, or target volume for the line. As with most private-label launches in foodservice, adoption will show up first in attach rates among existing Keystone cleaning customers — the natural install base for the extension.
The launch follows Sysco's broader activity in operator services; the company recently partnered with a consultancy firm on a sustainability programme for foodservice customers, signalling a strategy of selling operational outcomes alongside cases of product.
For Sysco's supplier economics, the extension requires no new infrastructure beyond merchandising and sourcing through the established Ecolab relationship, making it a low-capital-margin play. For competitors in foodservice and jan-san distribution, it signals continued encroachment: broadliners are using private-label hygiene and chemicals portfolios to claim adjacency spend that specialist distributors have traditionally owned.
