Graybar agreed to acquire Samson Electrical Supply of South Plainfield, N.J., with expected close in early August 2026
The deal is Graybar's third acquisition of 2026, after Broken Arrow Electric Supply (March) and American Electric Supply (May)
Samson, founded in 1949, will keep its name, team and suppliers as a Graybar subsidiary; no purchase price was disclosed
Graybar has signed an agreement to acquire Samson Electrical Supply, a South Plainfield, N.J.-based electrical distributor founded in 1949, with an expected close in early August. The deal marks the third acquisition by the St. Louis-based distributor in 2026, following Broken Arrow Electric Supply in March and American Electric Supply in May.
The two companies disclosed no purchase price and no revenue figures for Samson, so the financial scale of the transaction remains unmeasured. What is disclosed is the operating plan: Samson will continue to operate under its own name, with the same team and suppliers, as a subsidiary of Graybar. That structure signals an asset-and-relationship acquisition — Graybar is buying local channel position in central New Jersey rather than consolidating the acquired operation into a branch network.
Samson serves commercial, industrial, residential, institutional and utility customers across a product range that spans electrical distribution products, lighting, power distribution equipment and MRO support. That mix sits squarely in Graybar's core electrical, industrial, automation and connectivity portfolio, plus its supply chain management and logistics services.
For Graybar, the logic is geographic density. "Samson Electrical Supply is a highly regarded company with a strong customer focus and deep roots in New Jersey," said Kathleen M. Mazzarella, chairman, president and CEO of Graybar. "This acquisition expands Graybar's presence in the region and enhances our ability to serve customers. We look forward to welcoming the Samson team to Graybar and working together to achieve success."
Michael Cohen, president of Samson Electrical Supply, framed the deal as continuity plus scale. "Samson and Graybar share a long-term commitment to our customers, employees and suppliers," he said. "Joining Graybar allows us to preserve the values that have defined Samson for generations while providing access to additional resources, capabilities and growth opportunities. We are excited about what this means for the future of our company, our employees, and those we serve."
The acquisition cadence itself is the measurable story. Three closed or pending deals in roughly five months — Broken Arrow Electric Supply in March, American Electric Supply in May, Samson in August — puts Graybar on a pace of consolidation unusual even by the standards of a consolidating electrical distribution channel. Regional independents with established contractor, industrial and utility relationships remain the primary acquisition currency, and Graybar is spending it at an accelerating rate.
For independent distributors watching the channel, the structure of this deal carries the usual signal: national players are buying local trust, not just inventory. Samson keeps its name, its people and its supplier lines — the assets that drive customer retention and inventory turns at the branch level. Whether Graybar can hold that customer base while layering on its procurement scale and logistics capabilities will determine the return on this and the year's other two deals.
